Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

This policy explains what Sparky Ed collects, why, how it is stored and shared, and the choices you have. Sparky Ed is operated by Sentinel Field LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("we," "us"). It should be read together with our Terms of Service. Questions or requests: elijah@sparkyfield.com.

1. What we collect

2. How we use it

We use your data to operate and improve Sparky Ed: to run your account, personalize how the tutor teaches you, generate your assessment and progress reports, run the content-safety system, process your subscription, and provide support. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

3. AI processing

Sparky Ed is powered by large language models. To generate tutoring responses, quizzes, and reports, the relevant content — your messages and any uploaded images, your assessment scores, and the free-text you provide — is sent to Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models by default. AI-generated content may contain errors and is for study and practice only; it is not a substitute for the official NEC or a licensed professional (see our Terms).

4. Who we share it with

We share data only with the service providers we need to run Sparky Ed, each acting on our behalf:

We do not otherwise share, rent, or sell your data, except where required by law or to protect the safety and rights of our users.

5. Instructors and institutions

If you join a class using an enrollment code, or your account is part of an institutional program, the instructor for that class can view your assessment results, session history, progress, and flagged-message summaries, as described in our Terms. If you do not wish to share this information with an instructor, do not join a class.

Where an educational institution provides or directs the collection of student information as part of an institutional agreement, we handle that information on the institution's behalf and under its direction, consistent with the institution's obligations under applicable student-privacy laws (including FERPA where it applies). Institutional customers may enter a separate data processing agreement with us governing that data.

6. Content moderation

To keep Sparky Ed safe for all students, including minors, student inputs and AI responses may be automatically screened and logged for inappropriate content and misuse. Flagged records are accessible to us and, for enrolled students, to their instructor. See the Content Moderation section of our Terms.

7. Cookies and local storage

We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in and to remember in-progress work (such as an unfinished assessment). We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

8. How long we keep it

We retain your data for the duration of your account, and for up to 12 months after you submit a deletion request, after which it is permanently deleted from our active systems (backup copies may persist for a limited additional period before being overwritten in the ordinary course). Stripe retains its own record of transactions independently, as required for financial and tax recordkeeping.

9. How it's protected

Your data is stored in a database that is not directly readable by the public — access runs through our server and is gated by the authentication token tied to your account, with row-level security enforced per user. Data is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we restrict access to what is necessary to operate Sparky Ed.

10. Your privacy rights

You may request to access, correct, or delete your personal data. California and Michigan residents have specific rights to request deletion of their personal data under applicable law. To make a request, email elijah@sparkyfield.com from the address associated with your account, and we will respond to verified requests as required by applicable law. If you are enrolled through an institution, some requests may need to be directed to that institution.

11. Children

Sparky Ed is not directed to children under 13, and users under 13 are not permitted to create or use an account. Users under 18 may use Sparky Ed only through institutional enrollment or with verifiable parental or guardian consent, as described in our Terms. If we learn that a user under 13 has created an account, we will delete it.

12. Where your data is processed

Sparky Ed is operated from the United States, and your data is stored and processed in the United States. If you access Sparky Ed from outside the U.S., you consent to processing your data in the U.S.

13. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Sparky Ed after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

14. Contact
